Abstract

1317484 Pipe couplings; seals PRIMORE SALES Inc 14 Aug 1970 [18 Aug 1969 13 April 1970] 39179/70 Headings F2B and F2G A pipe coupling includes a nut 14, a body 11 and a crimping member 19, these being fitted about a tube T. As shown in Fig. 1 screw threads 24 on the nut 14 engage screw threads 23 on the body 11 and the crimping member 19 is deformed so that it changes from a frusto-conical shape to a flat disc and so deforms the tube T and a sealing ring 22 placed between itself and the body 11. The body 11 may be connected by brazing to, for example, an outlet 10 of a compressor, as shown in Fig. 1, or alternatively the body 11 is modified as shown in Fig. 4, for connection to a second tube T<SP>1</SP>. In a modification, Figs. 5, 6, 7 (not shown), the crimping member and sealing ring are combined in a single structure by giving the ring a frusto-conical cross-section so that it can be bonded to the inner inclined face of the crimping member prior to its deformation on connection of the coupling. On coupling, the crimping member changes shape as before and the sealing ring is similarly deformed to fit the space defined by the crimping member, the body 11 and the tube T.
