Abstract

1317134 Double current telegraph amplifier CREED & CO Ltd 13 April 1972 17060/72 Heading H3T A telegraph double-current amplifier responds to the magnitude of an input signal to send positive or negative pulses along a telegraph line L connected between zero potential and the joined collector-emitters of two like conductivity transistors T 1 , T 2 whose collectoremitter paths are in series between positive and negative supply lines. The transistors conduct alternately only; means being provided to ensure this such as a transformer T R1 having one secondary S1 connected between zero potential and the base of transistor T 1 via an envelope detector circuit and the other secondary connected between the collector and base of the transistor T 2 . In operation small input signals do not turn on transistor T 1 but permit the transistor T 2 to be turned on by current flowing via the line L and resistor R 2 . Large signals turn transistor T 1 on but produce a bias across resistor R 2 to oppose the current flowing through the load at the resistor so preventing transistor T 2 from conducting. A centre tapped battery may be used in place of two separate supplies t 1 , t 2
