1315870 Hydrogenation catalysts INSTITUT FRANCAIS DU PETROLE DES CARBURANTS ET LUBRIFIANTS 23 Dec 1970 [26 Dec 1969] 61218/70 Heading B1E [Also in Division C2] Hydrogenation catalysts are obtained by contacting at least one transition metal compound with at least one compound of formula a) AlH n X 3-n in which n is 1 or 2 and X is -OR, -NR 2 , -NHR or -SR, where R is a substituted or unsubstituted hydrocarbon radical or, when n is 1, two R groups may form a group -A-Z-B-, where A and B are alkylene radicals and Z is O, S, alkylene, NH or NR' where R' is hydrocarbon; or b) M(AlH m X<SP>1</SP> 4-m ) p , in which m is 1, 2 or 3, M is an alkali or alkaline earth metal of valency p, X' is -R, -OR, -NR 2 , -NHR or -SR, where R is as defined above, or, when m is 1 or 2, two R groups may form a group -A-Z-B-; the amount of transition metal compound, expressed as metal, in the catalyst, being 0.5-200 ppm of the nitrile.
