Abstract

1315729 Polymer impregnated corrugated paper board CONSOLIDATED PAPER (BAHAMAS) Ltd 18 Dec 1970 [19 Dec 1969] 60247/70 Heading B5N [Also in Division D2] A corrugated paper board adapted to form a carton comprises a pair of liners and a corrugated medium between said liners, said board embodying between 5 and 40% by weight based on the untreated weight of the board of a hydrocarbon polymer bodying agent containing polymers derived predominantly from cyclic and acyclic diolefines with 5 to 6 carbon atoms, said polymer being set in situ within said liners and said medium to give the board wet strength and dry compression strength. The board may be made by coating one surface of the medium 10 at coating station 12 so that the surface of the medium remote from the water is about 80% untreated, coating the outer surface of the first liner 18 so that its inner surface is at least 80% untreated, corrugating the medium at corrugating station 16, applying an adhesive to the tips of the flutes and contacting the coated flutes of the medium with the inner surface of the first liner to form assembly 20 which is conveyed to the double backer and hot plate section 22 and a second liner 24 coated on one surface at coating station 26 so that the inner surface is substantially 80% untreated applied to the adhesive coated exposed flutes of the assembly 20.
