1315197 Explosive compositions EXPLOSIVES & CHEMICAL PRODUCTS Ltd 5 July 1971 [13 July 1970] 33975/70 Heading C1D An explosive gel blasting composition comprises ammonium nitrate; a liquid hydrocarbon sensitizer, e.g. diesel oil; a hydrophilic gelling agent, e.g. guar gum, carboxymethyl cellulose, or partially hydrolysed polyacrylamide; a cross-linking agent, e.g. borax, aluminium sulphate, or sodium dichromate; water; and a hydrophilic gelling agent, e.g. finelydivided silica. Also present may be an alkali or alkaline earth metal nitrate, sodium carbonate as a buffering agent, and foamed polystyrene granules as an ancillary sensitizer. The hydrophobic gelling agent prevents the liquid hydrocarbon separating out. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,156,596.
