Abstract

1313523 Vibratory finishing J F RAMPE 17 Sept 1920 [5 Feb 1970] 44469/70 Heading B3D A vibratory finishing machine comprises a tub 10 carried by a supporting structure 9, means 14 for charging workpieces into the tub 10, and means 22 spaced from the charging means 14 for discharging the workpieces, the means 22 including a housing 23, an opening in the housing 23 having a movable closure member 34, Fig. 4 and a discharge weir 31 within the housing 23 adjacent the opening. The housing may be roatedon an axis parallel to that of the tub 10 to adjust the height of the weir. The closure opens periodically under automatic control to discharge workpieces and treatment media. A bucket conveyer 16 feeds the workpieces and treatment media into the charging hopper 14, the charge entering the tub 10 through an apertured end plate 13. A chain belt drive 4 from a motor 3 operates means (not shown) to vibrate the tub 10, a piston/cylinder arrangement 38, 39 operating, e.g. at timed intervals to pivot the closure member 34 about a pin 35 to discharge part of the tub contents on to a screen 28. Liquid finishing medium passes into a trough 27 for recycling or discahrge to waste, while a second screen (28a), Fig. 2 (not shown), returns solid medium to the conveyer 16, the workpieces passing over a run-off tray 30 for collection. For adjusting the effective position of the weir 31, clips 25 locking the housing 23 to a tub end plate 21 are loosened, the housing 23 then being tilted about its axis to raise or lower the lip of the weir 31.
