Abstract

1312941 Torsional vibration dampers HOLSET ENG CO Ltd 16 April 1970 11022/70 Heading F2S In a torsional vibration damper of the type comprising a driving member 16 located in a viscous fluid containing cavity 25 in a driven two-part inertia member 18, 20; elastic elements 30, 32 under radial and axial compressive load in cut-away portions 26, 28 of the inertia member 18, 20 seal the cavity 25 and resiliently tune the inertia member. The fluid may be a silicone with a viscosity of up to one million centistokes. The elastic elements may be natural rubber, with an outer surface layer, 0À005 inch thick, of a synthetic rubber which is chemically inert to the viscous fluid. In Fig. 5 (not shown), the inertia member has a V-crosssection groove so that it may serve as a'pulley.
