1312901 Rubber compositions PNEUMATIQUES CAOUTCHOUC MANUFACTURE ET PLASTIQUES KLEBER-COLOMBES 5 Jan 1971 [8 Jan 1970] 525/71 Headings C3P and C3Q The invention comprises a reinforced sulphurvulcanized rubbery elastomer having an elongation at breaking point of at least 100% and a modulus of elasticity at 100% elongation of at least 34 kg./cm.<SP>2</SP> said elastomer containing an admixture of 100 parts by weight of one or more natural or synthetic rubbers, 30 to 150 parts of a reinforcing carbon black, 10 to 150 parts of a crystalline polymer of an alpha-olefin having 2 to 6 carbon atoms and a M.W. of at least 500,000 when determined by intrinsic viscosity and a vulcanizing quantity of a sulphur vulcanizing agent, the particles of the crystalline polymer having an average dimension of less than 100 microns and being uniformly distributed throughout the mass of elastomer and carbon. The ingredients are mixed at a temperature at least 20‹C. below the melting point of the crystalline polymer, and vulcanization is effected at a temperature at least equal to said melting point. In examples, the rubber is natural, SBR, a mixture of two different SBR's, cis-1,4-polybutadiene, EPDM or butyl rubber; the crystalline polymer is polyethylene or polypropylene; and, besides carbon black and vulcanizing ingredients, the composition also contains phenyl- #-naphthylamine and in some cases processing oil.
