Abstract
1312508 Capacitor transducers MARCONI CO Ltd 10 June 1970 [23 June 1969] 28072/70 Heading H4J A capacitor transducer comprises a backplate 1 (Fig. 1) forming one electrode, a movable second electrode 3 and an insulating layer 4 between electrode 3 and the electrode of backplate 1. The electrode 3 is supported by a flexible non-metallic foil 2 on the side of the electrode 3 remote from the back-plate 1. Electrode 3 may be a film of evaporated aluminium. The back-plate 1 preferably presents a rough metal surface. The electrode of the back-plate 1 as shown in Fig. 1 is in the form of a plateau defined by an encircling groove. The insulating layer 4 is on the back-plate 1 or on the electrode 3. It is preferably formed by oxidation of the metal and may constitute an electret. It preferably contacts the other electrode. Foil 2 may be of polyethylene terephthalate. The electrode 3 may be provided only in the central area of the structure. The back-plate 1 (Fig. 3) may be recessed and at least the surface is metallic. The non-metallic foil 2 may contact the electrode 3 over the whole surface of electrode 3 or only at the periphery and this peripheral region may be provided with holes to increase flexibility.
