1312252 Recovery of manganese values KODAK Ltd 18 June 1970 [23 June 1969] 31603/69 Heading C1A [Also in Division C2] Manganous hydroxide is precipitated when a liquor containing at least one manganese salt is added to an aqueous solution of ammonia, or of a substituted ammonium hydroxide having a pKa value greater than 9, to reduce the pH of the latter solution from at least 10 to within the range 9À0-9À5. The separated hydroxide may be converted to trimanganese tetroxide either by heating in the presence of air or oxygen, or by stirring in deionized water at elevated temperature whilst passing air or oxygen therethrough. It is preferred to carry out the precipitation of manganese hydroxide at a constant temperature in the range 25-35‹ C. and in the absence of air.
