1312196 2 - Chloro - 6 - hydroxy - nicotinic acid F HOFFMANN-LA ROCHE & CO AG 23 Nov 1971 [23 Nov 1970 (2)] 54365/71 Heading C2C Novel 2 - chloro - 6 - hydroxy - nicotinic acid and base addition salts thereof are prepared by hydrolysis of 2,6-dichloro-nicotinic acid or a base addition salt thereof, followed by acidification of the hydrolysis product and optional salification of the resulting free acid. Pharmaceutical compositions having hypolipidemic activity comprise, as active ingredient, 2- chloro-6-hydroxy-nicotinic acid or a pharmaceutically acceptable base addition salt thereof, in association with a compatible pharmaceutical carrier, and may be administered orally or parenterally.
