Abstract

1311860 Invalid handling apparatus; rolling appliances STERO NV 27 Feb 1970 [27 Feb 1969] 44325/69 Headings B8B and B8H [Also in Division A5] A stretcher comprises a patient supporting belt 10<SP>1</SP> mounted on a frame, and belt driving means and frame propulsion means which are coupled together so that when the frame is propelled the patient supporting surface of the belt is moved at the same speed in the opposite direction. The belt is supported on the frame 35 (Fig. 6, not shown) by a drive roller 18 and guide rollers 16, 17. A body supporting plate 22 is attached to the frame (35) to prevent the belt 10<SP>1</SP> from sagging under the weight of the patient. The frame propulsion means comprises an endless belt 19 and is supported by a guide roller 20, support rollers 29 attached to the bottom of the frame (35) and a driving roller 21. The driving roller 21 and the belt driving roller 18 are driven by an operating mechanism consisting of a gear-wheel 27 operated by a handle 28, for driving a chain 25 round axles 23, and 24 on the driving rollers 18 and 21, and a tensioning cog 26. This moves the belt 10<SP>1</SP> in the opposite direction to belt 19 but at the same speed. The stretcher may have a cover.
