Abstract

1311848 Plastics containers JUON PLASTICS Ltd 17 July 1970 [17 April 1969] 19638/69 Headings B8C and B8P A package 1 comprises a base portion 2 shaped to receive an article and connected by an integral hinge 8 to a top portion 3 the top and base portion having surfaces which slide into abutting engagement to hold the package in the closed position. As shown, the abutting surfaces comprise the outer face 12 of a tray compartment 4 in the base portion and the inside face 11 of a compartement 5 in the top portion. The tray compartment 4 comprises two compartments 6 and 7. In a modification, the flange 13 of the top portion is provided with an integral flap (15) bent under the flange 13 to define a space (19) to accommodate the flange 14 of the base portion in the closed position. In a further modification, a projection (17) is provided on the flap (15) to fit into the space 20 beneath the wall of the tray compartment 4. The package is produced by vacuum forming parallel rows of tray compartments 4 and cover compartments 5 on a sheet of plastics material. The hinges 8 and folds to form flaps (15) are then formed by bending the sheet on a hot wire, and the sheet is then cut transversely to the hinges 8 to form separate packages. The hinge 8 is formed so that the equilibrium position of the top position relative to the base portion when open is at an angle α of approximately 20 degrees.
