1311515 Hydroxycarboxylic acid nitrites HENKEL & CIE GmbH 3 April 1970 [5 April 1969] 15856/70 Heading C2C Hydroxycarboxylic acid nitriles; e.g. the novel compounds of the formula wherein R 1 is a C 1-22 aliphatic residue, R 2 is a hydrogen atom or a C 1-21 aliphatic residue and the sum of the carbon atoms in R 1 and R 2 is from 6 to 22; are obtained by reacting epoxides containing at least 5 carbon atoms in the liquid phase with hydrocyanic acid in the presence of a compound forming cyanide ions and/or a strong base.
