Abstract

1311096 Bleaching textiles IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 29 April 1970 [9 May 1969] 23782/69 Heading DIP Textile materials are bleached using an emulsion or suspension of a bleaching agent in a hydrocarbon or halogenated hydrocarbon solvent, after which the solvent is removed, e.g. using hot air or steam and the fabric is washed, e.g. using an alkali bath. The bleaching agent may be an aqueous solution of H 2 O 2 and/or peracetic acid; NaClO 3 and NaOCl are also mentioned. An emulsifying agent may be present, e.g. one or more of nonyl phenol/ ethylene oxide condensate, isopropylamine dodecyl benzene sulphonate, coconut oil diethanolamide, sodium di (methylamyl) sulphosuccinate and a sulphonated ester. The solvent may be trichloroethylene, perchloroethylene, methylene chloride, 1,1,1-trichloroethane, 1,1,2- trichloro-1,2,2-trifluoroethane or white spirit. Natural or synthetic fabrics in loomstate condition may be treated, e.g. polyester/cotton, wool, cotton, nylon and polyester/viscose.
