1311079 Vacuum cleaning nozzle ELECTROLUX Ltd 27 Aug 1971 [30 Sept 1970] 40287/71 Heading A4F [Also in Division E2] A cleaning nozzle includes a fixed flat elongate mouth 12 and a brush 48 which is movable from an inoperative position, Fig.4, in which the mouth 12 contacts the working surface to an operative position on which it contacts the working surface, Figs.5 and 6, (not shown). The brush is mounted on a pair of frame members 17, 18, Fig.2, (not shown) movable vertically on guides 19, 20. Frame 17 is acted on directly by an actuating mechanism, and frame 18 is connected to frame 17 by a crank rod 32, Fig.2, (not shown) so as to move with frame 17. The actuating mechanism includes a control member 21 having a lever pivoted at 23, an extension 35 on the lever, and a latch 36. Latch 36 is pivoted on a shaft 37 and biased by a spring 43 to the position shown in Fig.4. As shown in Fig.3, the latch 36 is mounted on shaft 37 so that it may tilt in the plane of the Fig. a spring 50 biasing the latch to the vertical position. A tongue 46, Figs.3 and 4, is pressed out of the latch 36. When the control member 21 is depressed from position A to position B, Fig. 3, it pushes frame 17 downwardly so that the brush is moved to its operative position, the force being transmitted to frame 17 via spring 56. At the same time, extension 35 rides along cam 44 on latch 36 and into detent 45 to lock the control member in position B, Fig. 5, (not shown). To release the control member, it is depressed into position C, the control member moving relative to frame 17 by cup 27 sliding through aperture 30 in frame 17, Fig.1. As the extension 35 moves downwards to the bottom of detent 45, the latch 36 is pivoted anti-clockwise by spring 43 so that extension 35 lies below tongue 46 on latch 36, Fig.6, (not shown). On release of control member 21, spring 28 urges firstly the control member and then the control member and the frame 17 upwardly, the extension 35 acting on tongue 46 to pivot latch 36 clockwise in the plane of Fig.3, to allow the control member to return to position A unimpeded.
