Abstract

1310892 Grinding RICHARDS FOUNDRIES Ltd 24 Sept 1970 [25 June 1969] 32006/69 Heading B3D A work-rest, e.g. for supporting castings for fettling, includes a workpiece support plate 4 mounted for movement towards and away from a grinding wheel G and a fixed support fillet 6, means, e.g. a presser bar 22, being provided on the support plate 4 for urging a supported workpiece W against the wheel G on moving the support plate 4 towards it. The plate 4 is attached to a frame member 3 by pivoted links 8, 9 forming a parallelogram linkage, a foot pedal 5 being operable against spring return means (not shown to move the plate 4 towards the workpiece W. The plate 4, is provided with holes (24), Fig. 3 (not shown), for engaging studs (23) of the presser bar 22 in a chosen position, and further holes (25) are engageable with a manual levering bar 26. Alternatively, Fig. 2 (not shown), an adjustable stop (13) mounted in a lug (15) depending from the plate 4 may be engageable with a block (16) mounted on the frame 3 to limit forward movement of the plate 4, and a two part draw rod 11 of adjustable overall length may be provided, for varying the inoperative position of the plate 4, e.g. to compensate for wheel wear. Also (not shown), the plate 4 may be moved by a pneumatic piston/cylinder unit.
