Abstract
1310607 Cartridges E LUTZ 1 April 1970 [19 April 1969] 15513/70 Heading F3A Caseless ammunition comprises a thin-walled shell a closed by a front plug h and a rear cover g, the shell surrounding a propellent charge b and centering a bullet d and a priming charge e, for example by means of internally projecting ribs. On firing, the bullet is expelled from the powder charge by the ejection bolt and an oversize rear section r is compressed in the breech piece of the weapon. Stepped pin f then ignites primer charge e which in turn ignites propellent charge b. In higher calibre ammunition, Figs. 5-7 (not shown), the bullet is provided with an oversize driving ring, and the stepped firing pin is replaced by a stepped cup. The shell and rear cover may be embossed or grooved and made of compressed powder or synthetic material so that on explosion fragments are formed which either burn away or are expelled from the barrel. The propellent charge may consist of agglutinated granules or loose powder.
