Abstract

1309702 Acoustic flow meter GOSUDARSTVENNY NAUCHNO - ISSLEDOVATELSKY I PROEKTNY INSTITUT REDKOMETALLICHESKOI PROMYSHLENNOSTI 28 May 1971 17892/71 Heading H4D A method of measuring the flow rate of liquids comprises transmitting an acoustic signal towards a float situated in a stream of the liquid, the position of the float being dependent on the flow rate, receiving echo signals therefrom and determining the flow rate from the echo transit time. A stainless steel float 2 inside glass tube 1 containing the fluid flow adjusts its position according to the flow velocity. A pulse synchronizer 9 triggers a pulse from transducer 4 via pulse generator 7 while simultaneously triggering bi-stable in meter 8. The echo pulse retriggers the bi-stable thereby indicating the distance to the float and thus the fluid flow rate.
