Abstract
1309648 Metal bonded metal filaments H J SCHLADITZ 13 April 1970 [25 April 1969] 17412/70 Headings C7D and C7F Polycrystalline metal filaments grown from a gas phase and bundled together by vibration, screening or compaction, are bonded by metal deposition, preferably by electroless deposition or thermal decomposition of metal compounds and then heated for a few seconds below the melting point. The filaments may be Fe containing 0À8- 1À6%C, 70-90 A size and may be bonded by, Ni, Fe, Mo, W by decomposition of the carbonyl or by Cr by decomposition of dicumenechromium or dibenzolchromium Ni may also be deposited electrolessly. The bonded structure is heated at 650C. under a pressure of 0À3-14 Kp/mm<SP>2</SP>, and may then be impregnated with a lower melting metal such as Al or a synthetic resin. When impregnating with Al, which alloys with the filaments, it is preferable to coat the filaments with at least one intermediate layer of an oxide and/or a metal which does not alloy with the impregnating metal.
