Abstract

1309597 Coating tablets COLORCON Inc 14 April 1970 [9 May 1969] 17806/70 Heading A5B Pharmaceutical tablets and the like are coated with a moisture-barrier coating composition comprising shellac having free acid groups and a polymeric material having free basic groups in quantities such that the molar ratio of basic to acid acidic groups is 0.1 to 1.3:1. Suitable polymers are polyvinyl pyrrolidone, polyvinylpyridine and polymers of linoleic acid with polyamines. The coatings may be applied by pan coating using a solution of the above ingredients in a volatile solvent, which may also contain a colourant and a detackifier.
