Abstract

1307855 Grinding BLACK & DECKER Ltd and J H FLACK 21 Aug 1970 [21 Aug 1969] 41824/69 Heading B3D A housing 1 for a power-driven abrasive tool is made of resilient material and has a number of integral retaining pillars 2 each constituted by a number of downwardly depending finger-like struts 2<SP>1</SP> for holding the backing plate 3 of the tool. The resilient material may be polypropylene and the pillars extend from orifices in the roof of the housing. Each pillar consists of a plurality of struts 21 which merge into a boss 17 to which the backing plate is held by a screw 18 and nut 19. A resilient pad 6 of felt or sponge is adhered to the backing plate and a sheet of abrasive paper is held on the undersurface of the pad by rotatable clamping rods 4, 5 on the backing-plate. A bearing 15 on the backing plate receives a shaft 14 which is eccentric relative to a spindle 12 for mounting in a power unit, such as an electric drill, and connected to a counterweight 13. The housing has lugs 7 for engaging the power unit and a sliding block 8 which is movable by a screw 10 and has tabs 9 also for engaging the power unit.
