Abstract
130,693. Pearson, R., and Parkes, H. C. March 15, 1918. Nitrogen oxides.-Air or other mixture of nitrogen and oxygen is caused to form nitrogen oxides by the joint action of electric sparks and of a catalyst, such as platinum black or platinized asbestos, having a temperature not below 300‹ C. The catalyst. c may occupy the space'between the electrodes b and be heated by the sparks, or may be directly in front of, or behind, the electrodes and be separately heated. According to one of the Provisional Specifications, an electric arc may be used in place of the spark discharge.
