Abstract
1306699 Controlling differential locks ROBERT BOSCH GmbH 1 Oct 1970 [2 Oct 1969 (2)] 46654/70 Heading B7H [Also in Divisions F2, G1 and H2] A generator for use in a system for measuring acceleration of a vehicle wheel comprises a discshaped rotor 27 located adjacent three coils 32, 36, 38 wound on the parallel arms 31, 35, 37 of an E-shaped magnetic core 28. The rotor shaft 26 is coupled to the vehicle wheel and the magnetic circuit is completed by a stationary yoke 29 mounted opposite the arms of the core on the other side of the rotor. As shown in Fig. 2 the coil 32 is connected via a constant current device 33 to a D.C. source 34, so that a constant magnetic field is produced in the core. Eddy currents produced in the disc 27 by rotation thereof produce a further magnetic field which is superimposed on the first one. Changes in the superimposed field caused by acceleration or deceleration of the disc produce voltages in the coils 36, 38 which are oppositely wound and connected in series so that the voltages are added together. The output is amplified at 39 and the resulting signal may be passed to the control circuit of a vehicle braking system. Fig. 3 shows a modification in which the centre coil 32 is energized from an A.C. signal generator 136 through a transformer 134. The A.C. field produced in the core 28 induces voltages in the coils 45, 46 which are oppositely wound so that no net voltage results. The superimposed field produced by rotation of the disc generates voltages in coils 45, 46 which are added together and passed through a rectifier bridge 143. The resulting pulsating D.C. signal is filtered at 154, 155 and differentiated at 156, 157 to produce an output at 158 proportional to acceleration of the disc 27. Another application referred to is detecting wheel slip in rail or road vehicles. In the latter case the output signal may actuate locking mechanisn for a differential gear when one wheel slips. Alternatively the output may be connected to an indicator for measuring the efficiency of vehicle brakes.
