Abstract

1305584 Threading tool IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 19 April 1971 [5 Feb 1970] 5592/70 Heading D1F In a threading operation, a thread (10) running towards the ring (12) of a ring and traveller wind-up mechanism is entrained with a suction gun (11) above the ring, the threading tool shown is passed upwards through the ring and the thread is caught in a notch 1 in a spring-loaded, pivoted arm 2 and the tool is withdrawn back through the ring. This action establishes a thread line (passing through the ring, around notch 1, over the ring to the suction gun) the mounting tension in which overcomes the spring 5, the arm 2 yields and the loop of thread is severed as by a cutter blade 7 whereupon the two freed ends are collected by the suction gun. If the thread is a staple fibre strand it may be reinforced by false-twisting imparted by the suction gun. Alternative severing means may comprise two blades in acute angled contact, blades moving relatively to each other in cutting action, or hot wire or flames. The tool may incorporate a traveller threading device according to Specification 1305585.
