Abstract

Relay or power apparatus.-In power control mechanism, a steering-handle, such as the wheel A, drives with lost motion a co-axial drum C, the relative movement causing a fluid pressure valve N to control one of the ports 0' corresponding to the direction in which the wheel has been moved. The drum C, which carries cables D for direct manual control, has an arm E slotted at E<1> to receive one end H<1> of a bell-crank lever pivoted on a pin G' which also .carries two arms H<3>; the other end H<2> of the lever is adjustably secured at J and locked at H<4> to the arms H<3> which operate the valve N. The wheel A carries the pin G' and also a guide-pin L extending between the arms H<3>. The arm E extends between two spring buffers F carried by the wheel A, which also carries a screw R passing through a slot in the arm E to lock the wheel A and drum C together for direct manual control. Should the pilot release the wheel during power operation, the buffers will return the arm E and valve N to a central position and the power will be cut off. The wheel may be mounted on the parts S or S<1> of a control lever rocking about two diameters at right-angles and controlling four power branches T, while this additional control can be rendered inoperative by a locking-ring U. The wheel A may rotate about a vertical axis, while the slot E<1> may be provided in the drum C, which may be replaced by one member in a train of gearing used instead of the cables D.
