Abstract

1305289 Envelope or bag forming apparatus B PAHLITZSCH 30 June 1970 [17 July 1969] 31490/70 Heading B5D [Also in Division B8] In an envelope or bag making apparatus a shingling arrangement includes rollers 8 and 9 driven at a slower speed than the two parallel conveyer belts 5 having cams 12 projecting from their surface. In operation, a partially formed envelope 3 is received and sucked on to the conveyer belts 5 by a reduced pressure source acting through openings 14. The cams 12 which have a downwardly chamfered surface (13, Fig. 1) in the direction of movement of the envelopes slide under the flap of the preceding envelope 3 to raise this envelope and allow the following envelope 3 to pass beneath it. At this stage the openings 14 become disengaged from the source of reduced pressure. An opposed pair of conveyer belts 2 feed envelopes to the belts 5 at twice the speed of conveyance of envelopes held on the belts 5. The shingled envelopes are conveyed to a flap gumming apparatus (not shown). The conveyer belts 5 are toothed and driven by toothed pulleys (6, Fig. 1).
