Abstract

1305194 Hydrolytic enzyme mixture ASTRA LAKEMEDEL AB 9 July 1970 [9 July 1969] 34696/69 Heading C3H [Also in Division C5] A hydrolytic enzyme mixture is prepared by subjecting the microorganism Cephalosporium ATCC 11550 or mutants thereof to submerged aerobic fermentation in a nutrient medium, and recovering the enzyme mixture. The nutrient may comprise sources of carbon, nitrogen and inorganic salts, and the fermentation may be at pH 4À5-9À5 for 30-120 hours at 20-35‹ C. The enzymes may be recovered from the solution obtained after removal of the cells from the fermentation medium by precipitation, e.g. with tannin, lignin, acetone, isopropanol or inorganic salts such as Na 2 SO 4 , (NH 4 ) 2 SO 4 , or by spray-drying. Among the properties of the hydrolytic enzyme mixture are: (a) it comprises aromatic amino acids; (b) it is proteolytically active against casein, fibrin, haemoglobin, albumin, gelatine and elastine, and also contains esterases, lipases and amylases, (c) shows little or no peptidase activity against a variety of peptides, and (d) its caseinolytic activity is unaffected by the presence of Mn<SP>++</SP>, Co<SP>++</SP>, Ca<SP>++</SP>, Mg<SP>++</SP> and EDTA.
