Abstract

1302461 Pocket lighters BRAUN AG 8 April 1970 [12 April 1969] 16661/70 Heading F4F In a pocket gas lighter in which a part of a broad side of the casing 2 is formed as an acuating member 3 for the ignition device 5 and for exposing the flame orifice 8, the actuating member is pivotally borne about an axis 1 running transversely to the longitudinal extent of the broad side of the casing. In Figs. 1-3 a lighter with a fuel tank 4 connected to the flame orifice 8 by a tube 7 is operated by pressing together the corrugated portions 13 on the casing, thus pivoting the actuating member 3, which both opens the flame orifice 8 and actuates a magneto electrical igniter system 5 by means of an arm 12 connected to both the actuating member 3 and the operating arm 11 of the ignition system, the gas which emerges from the flame orifice is ignited by sparks from the ignition system. A locking mechanism is described (Fig. 4, not shown) which prevents accidental actuation of the lighter. The flame height may be adjusted by a wheel 10 at the outlet of the tank, by means of a second wheel (21, Fig. 5, not shown) located on the outer side of the casing, the arrangement being such that the two wheels are only connected when the lighter is actuated. Other embodiments in which the pivot axis runs diagonally across the casing (Figs. 10-13, not shown) or in two halves of the casing may be pivoted around each other (Figs. 14-15, not shown) are described.
