Abstract
1302393 Dihydrocinnamaldehydes UNIVERSAL OIL PRODUCTS CO 12 June 1970 28545/70 Heading C2C Dihydrociunamaldehydes are obtained by hydrogenation of cinnamaldehydes with hydrogen under substantially anhydrous conditions, at a hydrogen pressure within the range from 1 to 69 atm. and at a temperature from 70‹ to 250‹ C., and in the presence of a Pd-on-alumina catalyst and an amount of a potassium salt of a weak acid within the range from 0À5 to 5 equivalents per equivalent of Pd in said catalyst. Preferred potassium salts are the acetate and carbonate. The process may be carried out continuously or in a batchwise manner. Examples are given which illustrate the process.
