Abstract

1300349 Mechanical switches SIEMENS AG 19 April 1971 [25 March 1970] 25363/71 Heading H1N A rotary switch comprises a casing made up of two identical casing halves 1 made from a synthetic plastics material, and a pattern of contact surfaces 5 for each casing half stamped out of sheet metal and including terminals 6 adapted to be plugged into standardly-spaced holes in a printed circuit board. The surfaces 7 of halves 1 mate with each other and are provided with mating pegs 9 and recesses 10. The halves are secured together by heat deforming the ends of pegs 9, and screws through holes 43 having extensions 46 fitting into enlarged sections 47 secure the switch to a common support for a plurality of switches. The joint between mating surfaces 7 can be sealed by an adhesive foil or a bead of adhesive. The contact pattern 5 is moulded in each half. Inside the switch is a rotor, Fig. 5, made of identical halves 15, 16 of synthetic plastics material and having holes into which fit movable contacts urged by springs 23 acting on insulating members 24 so that extensions 14 on the movable contacts press against shoulders 22 on the rotor halves. The movable contacts each have three points 40, Fig. 4 (not shown), arranged on the contact surface in a triangle so that if two points bear on the inner fixed contact track 41, Fig. 1, and one point on the outer track, interrupted contact switching is achieved and if the two points bear on the outer track make before break switching is achieved.
