Abstract

1300171 Swimming pool filter device W O BAKER 27 May 1970 [28 May 1969] 25418/70 Heading A4N [Also in Division F2] A swimming pool filter device has a body 12 comprising an upper inlet 24 which receives surface water from the pool, an inlet port 48 communicating with the main body of the pool, an outlet port 46, a strainer basket 40 resting on a rim 38 below the inlet port 48, and a rotatable control plate 42, having a sealable opening 60 and a depending flange 76, mounted between the upper inlet 24 and the inlet port 48, said flange 76 being able selectively to open or at least partially close said inlet port 48. A buoyant stopper 62 is used to close said plate opening 60. The stopper 62 is attached by a cord 64 to one of two lugs 66 on the plate having ears 72 which trap the plate 42 under an annular rim 70, and above a sealing O-ring 56 on another annular rim 44 in the body 12. The plate is manually rotatable by the lugs 66 around the vertical axis and may be removed by lifting when the lugs 66 correspond to the two breaks 74 in the rim 70. The buoyant stopper 62 has a shoulder 68, formed in the upper surface of the plate for when the stopper 62 is not in use. The plate 42 may be transparent and marked with indicia showing the position of the depending flange 76. The outlet 46 leading to a pump may have a slide valve 50 controlling the flow of water. The body 12 may have a removable top 20 to permit inspection and removal of plate 42, and basket 40, and a spring-loaded valve 18 in the base. The device allows three modes of operation, water being drawn from the surface of the pool to the outlet port 46 through the plate, from the body of the pool via inlet port 48 to outlet 46 or a combination of both previous operations. The device may be used in combination with several others; an inlet valve 18 in the bottom of the body allows equalization of flow, whilst a slide valve 50 on outlet port 46 controls the rate of flow. Inlet port 48 may be connected by a pipe to a main drain located at the bottom of the pool and, with opening 60 closed, the pump may be operated to lower the water level or remove foreign water from the bottom of the pool.
