Abstract

1299911 Dental handpieces CKD PRAHA OBOROVY PODNIK 21 April 1970 [21 April 1969] 18954/70 Heading A5R [Also in Division F1] A dental handpiece, the torque of which increases with loading, comprises a reaction type gas turbine with a rotor 4 fitted with tangential nozzles 8 and supported in gas lubricated bearings. It is characterised by a circular gap 5 between adjacent surfaces 3 and 14a of the rotor and stator the centre part of said gap communicating with the gas input 2 and the periphery communicating with the gas exhaust 6. Compressed gas enters through the input 2 into the gap 3 and, if the tool is not yet in place in the collet 12, the gas is simply discharged. After the shank of the tool is put into the collet 12 the gas flows through the distribution holes 10, into the ring-shaped cavity 11, through the tangential nozzles 8 out through the exhaust channel 6 and through the gap 5 between bearing surfaces 3 and 14a. When the tool is loaded, the rotor 4 is axially displaced so as to diminish the clearance 5. Due to this the proportion of gas flowing into the ring-shaped cavity 11 is increased and the torque of the turbine is increased. At the same time the pressure within the clearance increases and the bearing capacity of the turbine is enhanced.
