Abstract
1299793 Automatic lie selection for a golf game BRUNSWICK CORP 17 March 1970 [29 April 1969] 12777/70 Heading A6D A tee area includes a register means for registering a code denoting the location on a golf hole from which a ball is to be played and output means which both memorises the lie associated with the code corresponding to any given location on the golf hole and is responsive to the said registered code to give an output signal denoting the lie condition at the said location. A code (say F5) associated with a particular zone of the golf hole, Fig. 5, from which a shot is to be played is fed to the register means by switches 174, 176 which operate both a projector 16 to show an appropriate view of the hole as is disclosed in Specification 1,199,327 and the output means which rotate a tee-structure 20, constructed as disclosed in Specifications 1,181,401 and 1,234,528, to present to a golfer one of three mats disposed thereon representing different lie conditions. Each zone lies entirely within one lie condition and the code figures 1-4, 5-9 and 10 represent respectively the fairway, the rough and sand. Contacts 178 of the switch 176 control a NOR gate 198 and switches 200 and 202 of a logic circuit 170 for controlling the tee 20. A switch 218 of said circuit forms part of the projector circuit described in Specification 1,199,327 and is open when the film transport mechanism of the projector is in operation. A set of push buttons 222 are provided for four players. Alternatively, the means may utilize an opaque portion 242, Fig. 7, on the film strip; windows 246, 248 being provided to allow light to reach photocells in accordance with a code indicating the lie. The photocells form part of a logic circuit, Fig. 8 (not shown) controlling the tee 20. The game may utilize a ball spot projector as disclosed in Specification 1,203,264 and the mats may be constructed in accordance with Specifications 1,181,403 and 1,181,404.
