Abstract
1299625 Splicing tool DEFENCE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR 1 July 1971 [7 July 1970] 32784/70 Heading D1T The rope splicing tool shown in cross-section in Fig. I has a lower cylindrical end 2 and an upper tapered end 3, the end 2 being formed with a blind bore 5, to receive a rope end, and a transverse slot 9 extending through the walls of the bore 5. The tool also has the transverse passages 7 and 8. Fig. 4 shows the tool mounted upright on a stand 11 by passing the upper arm 16 of the stand through passage 8 with the lower arm 15 of the stand in slot 9. A rope 18 can then be forced onto the tool as shown in Fig. 4 and the rope pushed downwardly onto the cylindrical end 2. Thereafter the tool is removed from the stand 11 and replaced thereon as in Fig. 5 with the upper arm 16 extending through the passage 7 and the tapered end 3 of the tool pointing downwardly. The rope end 19 is inserted in the blind bore 5 and the operator then pulls the rope upwardly as at CC whilst exerting a downward thrust D on the stand 11. The rope end 19 is thus caused to pass through the rope to form an eye. Alternatively two rope ends may be joined together by this means. The process may be repeated with any one rope end to ensure a firm joint.
