Abstract

1299564 Container closures E B MIDDLETON 6 May 1971 [8 May 1970] 13578/71 Heading B8T A discharge nozzle for a tube comprises a base member 11 attached to the tube, a ball valve 12 and a rotatable cap 14. The ball valve 12 has a through bore 13, a pinion 19, and two stub shafts 17, 18, which shafts engage in sockets 20. During assembly of the nozzle, the shafts 17, 18 are attached to an assembly ring 24 by sprues which fracture during assembly, the ring 24 fitting on the base member 11. The nozzle is formed when a recess 29 in the cap 14 engages with a bead 30 on the base member. The base member 11 carries a toothed rack 21, the teeth of which engage with the pinion 19. The cap 14 has a member 33 attached by a weakened zone 35 to the body of the cap, and in use this member 33 is removed to reveal an orifice 15. The cap 14 is then rotated and the teeth 46 of the pinion 19 engage with the rack 21 to cause the rotation of the ball valve 13. The ball valve 13 can be rotated to a position where it allows the discharge of the contents, or to a position where it seals the tube.
