1298405 Adjustable length bed; playpens F X GREGORY 22 July 1971 [22 July 1970] 35575/70 Headings A4J, A4U A bed of adjustable length comprises a rectangular frame 10 having pivotally connected at each end a pair of legs 11 and an additional frame 15 forming an extension of the rectangular frame in an in-use position and foldable through 180 degrees to an out-of-use position, legs 17 pivoted to the additional frame supporting the frame in an in-use position. A bolt (7), Fig.3a (not shown) on the frame 10 engages with a notch (8) on the frame 15 in the folded position. A pair of resilient mattresses 22, 23 one being half the thickness of the other are provided, the mattresses being so dimensioned that they lie one on top of the other to cover the surface of the frame 10 when frames 15 are in the folded position and lie end to end with the thinner mattress folded in half to cover the surfaces of the frame 10 and frames 15 when frames 15 are in the in-use position. A cage, comprising two end panels (27) and two side panels (28), Fig.7 (not shown) releasably connected together to form a rectangular framework with one side panel vertically adjustable with respect to the other panels, may be releasably secured to the frame 10 when frames 15 are in the folded position to form a drop-side cot. The end panels (27) may also be used as side grilles which extend along the sides of one of the frames 15, in the in-use position, and along part of the sides of the frame 10 Fig. 16 (not shown), the side grilles being interconnected by a head board (25), Fig.17 (not shown) detachably secured to the end of said one frame 15. When not in use the head board may be positioned between the two mattresses. The two end panels and side panels when detached from the bed may be used as a play-pen.
