Abstract

1298144 Sealing roller Bearings SOC NOUVELLE DE ROULEMENTS 11 March 1970 [12 March 1969 25 Feb 1970] 11789/70 Addition to 1241605 Heading F2A and F23 A rolling bearing is sealed by a deflector member 11 secured to one race and a resilient sealing ring 4 having one wall secured to the other race and another wall in sealing contact with the deflector member, the arrangement being such that there is an annular channel formed between the two walls, the second wall being maintained flexed towards the first wall by the deflector member. The second wall and the deflector partially define a chamber 13 containing lubricant which serves to reduce friction between the seal and the deflector and reduces the ingress of foreign matter into the chamber. The seal may be provided with a lip 10 which engages the race carrying the deflector thereby closing the chamber off from the bearing. Alternatively the lubricant may lubricate the bearing in addition to the seal. The resilient seal has a reinforcing insert 6. In alternative embodiments (Figs. 3 and 8, not shown) the race itself constitutes the deflector member.
