Abstract

1297655 Supersensitized photographic silver halide emulsions KONISHIROKU PHOTO INDUSTRY CO Ltd 12 Oct 1970 [13 Oct 1969] 48425/70 Heading G2C A light-sensitive silver halide photographic emulsion contains, in supersensitizing combination, as sensitizing dyes, (a) at least one compound of the formula wherein R 1 and R 2 are each 1-4C alkyl, 1-4C alkoxyalkyl or 1-4C (hydroxyalkoxy) alkyl; Y 1 and Y 2 are each 1-4C alkyl, 1-4C alkoxyalkyl, 1-4C (hydroxyalkoxy) alkyl or aryl; and either (i) each of R 3 and R 4 is 1-4 alkyl, hydroxyalkyl or sulphoalkyl of the formula: A<SP>1</SP>SO 3 H, wherein A<SP>1</SP> is alkylene; X‹ is an anion; and n is 2, or (ii) one of R 3 and R 4 is 1-4C alkyl, hydroxyalkyl, or sulphoakyl of the formula:- A<SP>1</SP>SO 3 ‹H, and the other is an anionic sulphoalkyl group of the formula:- A<SP>2</SP>SO 3 ‹, wherein A<SP>2</SP> is alkylene; and n is 1, thereby forming an intramolecular salt, and (b) at least one compound of the formula:- wherein R 5 is 1-4C alkyl and each of A<SP>3</SP> and A<SP>4</SP> is alkylene, and optionally (c) at least one compound of the formula:- wherein Y 3 is H, 1-4C alkyl, or 1-4C alkoxy; Z is S or Se; R 6 is 1-4C alkyl; and either (i) R 7 is 1-4C alkyl, hydroxyalkyl, carboxyalkyl or sulphoalkyl of the formula:- A<SP>5</SP>SO 3 H, wherein A<SP>5</SP> is alkylene; X‹ is an anion; and n is 2, or (ii) R 7 is an anionic sulphoalkyl group of the formula:- A<SP>6</SP>SO 3 ‹, wherein A<SP>6</SP> is alkylene; and n is 1, thereby forming an intramolecular salt. Many examples are given of these compounds. The emulsion has a high green light sensitivity and does not form any fog even when treated under a safety light having a wavelength of more than 600mÁ
