Abstract
1297644 Route-progress indicators W R CRADDOCK 24 Aug 1970 [10 Sept 1969] 44595/69 Heading G1K A route progress indicator on a motor vehicle comprises a guide track 12 terminating each end in trays 13 (preferably arcuate in shape) and clipped on to a housing 10 with bosses 11 for attachment to an instrument panel, at least one feed sprocket 21 rotatably mounted with its teeth protruding into the plane of the track 12 to engage perforations in a strip 23 bearing data related to a pre-selected route and reduction gearing mounted in the housing 10 connecting the sprocket 21 to a driving gear 36, which can be connected by a cable drive 51 to the speedometer drive in the vehicle gear box. The strip 23 may be made of trasparent paper or film material and the track 12 of light coloured translucent material. The data on the strip 23 is viewed through an aperture 16 in a front cover 14 and read against a datum mark on an adjustable cursor 17 and may be illuminated by a lamp in the housing. An adapter is described whereby the device and the speedometer may be driven simultaneously from the vehicle gear box, through respective cables.
