Abstract
1297515 Inhibiting scale formation ALBRIGHT & WILSON Ltd 22 Dec 1969 [3 Jan 1969] 581/69 Heading C1C [Also in Division C3] Scale deposition in evaporators, particularly using sea-water, is inhibited by adding to the water a threshold quantity, e.g. 0À1 to 10 p.p.m. by weight of a polyethylene imine, preferably having at least 20 monomer groups. The ethylene imine is preferably used together with a phosphorus-containing threshold agent, e.g. an alkali metal or ammonium condensed phosphate such as sodium pyrophosphate, or a phosphonic acid or water soluble salt thereof such as aceto diphosphonic acid. An anti-foam agent, e.g. a silicone, may also be added. Such compositions preferably contain 10-50% by weight of the polyethylene imine.
