Abstract
1296751 Sodium metaphosphate ALBRIGHT & WILSON Ltd 19 Jan 1971 [23 Jan 1970] 3448/70 Heading C1A Insoluble sodium metaphosphate is prepared by heating a mixture of (A) monosodium orthophosphate or a mixture of a basic sodium compound and a phosphoric acid (Na : P = 1:1) and (B) 10-35% wt. of free water based on the weight of solids in the mixture. "Free water" includes water of crystallization but excludes water of constitution. It is preferred to heat the mixture at 300-400‹ C. and the mixture may include as seed 5-30% wt. of insoluble sodium metaphosphate based on the wt. of component A. Said seed material will preferably pass through a 100 BSS mesh sieve. The mixture of A and B may be pelleted or briquetted prior to heating preferably to have a maximum dimension of “-¢ inch.
