Abstract

1296676 Oligomerization of tetrafluoroethylene IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 25 Feb 1970 [3 March 1969 1 Aug 1969] 11137/69 and 38721/69 Addition to 1082127 Heading C2C Oligomers of tetrafluoroethylene are prepared by contacting tetrafluoroethylene in an anhydrous polar reaction medium at an elevated temperature with a catalyst formed by reaction of potassium fluoride or bifluoride with a quaternary ammonium chloride, bromide or iodide in the said reaction medium. Reaction media specified, are dimethyl formamide, N- methyl-pyrrolidone, dimethylacetamide and the dimethyl ethers of ethylene glycol and diethylene glycol. A free-radical polymerization inhibitor may be present, e.g. α-pinene.
