Abstract
1296503 Telomerization process for ketones CELANESE CORP 5 May 1971 [8 May 1970] 13156/71 Heading C2C An aliphatic or cycloaliphatic ketone containing product is prepared by introducing an olefinic hydrocarbon and an aldehyde into a liquid consisting predominantly of the aldehyde and/or the hydrocarbon, and simultaneously introducing molecular oxygen into the liquid at a rate sufficient to initiate telomerization but below that at which there are formed more than 2 mols. of the carboxylic acid corresponding to the aldehyde per mole of total ketone. In examples, acetaldehyde and ethylene are reacted to give methyl ethyl ketone with some 2- hexanone and 2-octanone, and acetaldehyde and cyclohexene are reacted to give methyl cyclo hexyl ketone. Acetic acid is a by-product. Reference is also made to the product of methyl isobutyl ketone and homologues from acetaldehyde and isobutene.
