Abstract
1296338 Cavity resonators STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd 4 Aug 1971 36631/71 Heading H1W [Also in Division H3] A Gunn oscillator tuned by a varactor diode 9 has a resonant length of rectangular waveguide 1 short circuit at one end 2 and a coupling iris 3 at the other end, a Gunn diode 6 and a varactor diode 9 are mounted on each side of the broad dimension centre line of the waveguide and a coupling post 11 projects into the waveguide from a broad side of the waveguide and is positioned between the Gunn diode 6 and the varactor diode 9. The tuning post 11 increases the mutual coupling between the diodes 6 and 9 so as to produce wider ranges of electronic tuning. The negative frequency/temperature characteristic of the diode module 6, 9 is compensated by a dielectric sleeve 12 on the coupling post 11, the dielectric material of the sleeve 12 having a dielectric contact with a negative temperature coefficient. The dielectric material may be titania in polystyrene. Mechanical tuning may be provided by a dielectric tuning post 10 and the bias to the Gunn diode 6 may be from 7 via a LPF 8.
