129,518. British Thomson - Houston Co., (General Electric Co.). Sept. 17, 1918. Balancing reciprocating parts of machinery.-A steam-engine, internal. combustion engine, or other apparatus having a reciprocating member coupled by a connecting rod to a crank-shaft, is balanced by making the radius of gyration of the connecting-rod 8, about an axis through the pin 10, approximately equal to the distance between the centres of the pin 10 and crank-pin 9. A suit. able counterweight 11 is formed on the connecting- rod, and a weight 12 is arranged on the crank opposite the crank-pin to balance the connecting- rod; the values of the weights 11, 12 are obtained by calculation. Adjustable weights 13, 14, and 15 may be placed on the connecting-rod and crank to make final adjustments.
