Abstract

1295067 Zinc cyanide electro-plating bath STAUFFER CHEMICAL CO 18 Nov 1969 [11 Dec 1968] 56267/69 Heading C7B [Also in Division C2] In an aqueous, alkaline zinc cyanide electrolytic plating bath is present a brightener composition which comprises a combination of (1) the reaction product of at least one aromatic aldehyde with at least a stoichiometric quantity of at least one alkanolamine having the formula H 2 NR and R is a hydroxy substituted saturated aliphatic hydrocarbon radical containing 1-4 carbon atoms and (2) at least one water-soluble amide or substituted amide of the formula:- wherein R 1 and R 2 can be the same or different and are selected from hydrogen, saturated aliphatic radicals containing 1-6 carbon atoms or saturated hydroxyl substituted aliphatic radicals containing from 1-6 carbon atoms, the reaction product being present in the bath in a concentration of 0À02 to 0À3 grams per litre and the amide or substituted amide being present in a concentration of 0À0015 to 0À14 grams per litre. The bath may also contain gelatine and polyvinyl alcohol. In some of the Examples, parts are Zn plated and then chromated.
