Abstract
1295005 Sintered carbide alloy DEUTSCHE EDELSTAHLWERKE A G 29 June 1971 [16 July 1970] 30464/71 Headings C7A and C7D A sintered carbide alloy comprises 55 to 80% by weight of titanium, chromium and/or vanadium carbides and 20 to 45% by weight of an alloy consisting of:- 0 - 0À8% carbon 0À2 - 1À8% copper 0À2 - 1À2% niobium/tantalumand/or titanium 0À5 - 29% molybdenum 0À005 - 0À1% boron 0 - 23% chromium 0 - 1À7% aluminium 0 - 1À9% manganese 0 - 6À8% tungsten 0 - 68% iron 10 - 66% nickel Particularly preferred sintered alloys comprise 70% TiC with 30% of a nickel-base alloy or 70% TiC with 30% of an iron-base alloy; the TiC contains less than 0À01% free carbon. Preparation. The alloying components are first ground to a maximum of 6 microns and then the carbides and key elements are wet ground to 3 microns and dried. After mixing, the granular mixture is compacted in a mechanical or isostatic press and sintered under vacuum (less than 10<SP>-2</SP> torr pressure) or 1250-1350C. for a period of 8 to 48 hours.
