Abstract

1294725 Polymerizing conjugated diolefins GOODYEAR TIRE & RUBBER CO 20 Feb 1970 [27 March 1969] 8201/70 Heading C3P Conjugated diolefins are polymerized by a process comprising contacting the monomer(s) with a catalyst comprising:- (1) an organoaluminium compound, (2) a metallic co-ordination compound of a Group IIIb metal having atomic number 21, 39, 57-71 (i.e. scandium, yttrium or the lanthanides; and (3) a compound containing at least one halide ion; the catalyst being preformed and aged with at least one conjugated diolefin in an amount which gives a molar ratio of diolefin to component (2) of 0À2/1 to 3000/1. In the examples catalysts prepared by reaction of diisobutylaluminium hydride, cerium octanoate and ethylaluminium dichloride in benzene and aged with butadiene or isoprene are used to polymerize butadiene.
