Abstract

1294634 Pressurized dispensing container valves SCOVILL MFG CO 7 July 1971 [15 Oct 1970] 31963/71 Heading F1R A variable spray rate valve for a pressurized dispensing container comprises a valve member 30, Fig.1, having two relatively rotatable parts, one of which contains one or more passageways adapted to communicate the bore of the stem 38 with the interior of a valve cup 12, and the other having means for sealing the passageway or passageways. As shown the valve member 30 has an upper rotatable stem 28 formed with an annular flange 40 having passageways 48, Fig.2. The flange 40 is journalled in a groove 49 in a lower part 42 which has in a floor 44 a recess 46 underlying the passageways 48. Rotation of the stem 28 causes one or more of the passageways 48 to be blocked by the floor 44 so reducing the number through which product flows when the stem 28 is depressed or tilted. When rotation is limited by a stop (54), Fig.3 (not shown), depending from the underside of the stem, which engages a recessed extension (56) of the recess 46. Indicating marks, Fig.4 (not shown), are provided to indicate which direction the button 50 should be pointed to obtain a desired spray rate. In a modification, Fig. 5 (not shown), the flange 40 has an arcuate slot (48<SP>1</SP>) in place of the individual passageways 48.
